A city of ruins, a history of tragedy, a landscape for inspiration. My visit to Rome, included a daytrip to Pompeii. A hot, sticky, speedy tour of the rubble-strewn seaside village was not quite as marvelous as I had expected. In fact, I couldn’t wait to leave it and return to my Roman holiday. I did realize that I was walking through a veritable time capsule, witnessing a preserved history; I just didn’t much care for it. It was basically just a pile of dust and rocks and falling down buildings. The oppressive heat, humidity, and utter lack of shade, made this Hollywood girl terribly cranky. I wondered what could make this experience even worse? And thus, my idea for Roman Ruins was born. A bored wife, a preoccupied art history professor, and a seductive Italian tour guide.
